UPDATE (April 4): I am so proud that my story was told on TV in so many places. People all over the world have sent donations and love for Pepe and me. My veterinary bills have been paid, and Colorado Pug Rescue has a healthy emergency fund again for future needs. Since recovering from my dental care and eye surgery, I’ve had a problem with insulin dosage for my diabetes. That seems to be resolved now. I am still taking medicine for a stubborn cough, but everything else is going alright. Thank you all so much for your kind words and generous help!

UPDATE (February 4): I had the sutures removed from my eyes and my mouth today. The doctor says I am all healed! There is a little concern because I have lost a bit of weight. My foster mom will monitor my weight for a couple of weeks to make sure it doesn’t indicate a health problem.

Hi! I’m Augie, and I am 12 years old. I came to Colorado Pug Rescue back in August due to my owner’s terminal illness. CPR was kind enough to allow my best friend, Pepe the Chihuahua, to come with me. You see, I am blind, and Pepe is a great comfort to me. My foster mom calls him my Emotional Support Chihuahua, or ESC for short. CPR has been helping me with some medical problems since Pepe and I arrived. It was discovered that I have a heart murmur, so I went to a heart specialist for an echocardiogram. Thankfully, it was determined that the murmur is not a serious problem. Next, I developed a mild case of pneumonia, which was successfully treated with antibiotics and cough medicine. After the vet said it was safe for me to go under anesthesia, I had surgery January 21 to take care of some eye problems and dental problems. I had both eyes removed because of painful pressure in them. Since I was already blind, there was no effect on my vision, and the surgery relieved me of pain and the risk of an eye rupture. I also had serious dental disease requiring the removal of 14 painfully disintegrating teeth. The total cost for these procedures was over $3100. CPR has already done so much for me, and they could use some help covering the cost of taking care of my eyes and my teeth so they are prepared for the next puggie with special medical needs. Any amount you are willing or able to give would help. Thank you!
